Welcome to Term 4, 2017!

Stage One describes all students in Years 1 and 2. This year we have four classes of Stage One students: 

1/2B with Miss Bennett and Mrs Drewe

1/2M with Ms Morrison

1/2S with Miss Schultz

2/3H with Miss Hadwell

Students in these classes will participate in the same learning programs across the Key Learning Areas; English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, HSIE, Creative Arts and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education.

In Term 4, students will be studying the Geography unit, 'People & Places'. This learning sequence involves students explorng places across a range of scales within Australia and Australia’s location in the world. They describe connections people, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, have with places, both locally and globally. Students identify factors affecting people’s accessibility to places.

All classes will visit the library for an hour each week, where they will borrow  and complete book studies with Mrs Pearce.

Students will participate in PE lessons with Mr Crawley. In these lessons students will develop Fundamental Movement Skills such as running, jumping, hitting and catching. Please ensure students wear appropriate footwear on their PE day.

At the computer lab students will use Mathletics and Reading Eggs to consolidate their learning in English and Mathematics. Students are able to access these programs online from home, using their username and password from school. They will also develop skills using word processing, email and other online tools.

In Personal Development and Health, Stage One are looking at 'Cyber Safety', which discusses the strategies to develop skills in recognising and responding to unsafe situations.


Mathematics topics for this term are: Whole Number, Addition and Subtraction, Data, Length, Multiplication and Division, 3D Space, Fractions and Patterns and Algebra. Topics are explored using hands-on equipment, interactive games and written tasks.

In English, we are introducing the Daily 5. This involves students working through the rotations of Read to Self, Word Work, Read to Someone, Work on Writing and Listen to Reading. These rotations incorporate spelling tasks, writing activities and guided reading groups.
